One Watercolor a Day: Week 1

IMG_4755[1]

I picked up a watercolor book at the library my dad works at. It isn’t as much a ‘teach you to paint’ book as a ‘do these exercises and learn to paint through experimentation’ book. It’s been fun so far! I have absolutely no experience with painting, so it’s all a learning experience.

Yesterday I finished Week One, and I’ve been posting pictures on twitter day-by-day, but I figured I’d put them here too.

Day 1: playing with colors. It didn’t turn out so well because my watercolor paper wasn’t really watercolor paper. I got something better on day 4.

Day 2: painting a flower two times. I only included the wet-on-dry one here, because the wet-on-wet one was a flop (too much water, not good paper), but you can see it on twitter.

Day 3: a dreamscape using only different kinds of reds. Except I never remember my dreams, so I had to make something up. (I may or may not have been inspired by Dragon Age’s blood mages, or something.)

Day 4: still life using different color palates, on actually good paper.

Day 5: painting using masking fluid, which I had to buy to do this. It was cool, though! I think I’m going to enjoy using the rest of the stuff.

Day 6: a layered landscape. This was supposed to use a limited color palate, but I didn’t choose my colors very well, so. It ended up not being that great. I might try again at some point.

Day 7: painting foods. I enjoyed the combination of paints and ink in this one. I don’t usually enjoy drawing that much (oops) but things like this might be a reason to do it more.
