MTM Day 6: Anastasia

[Full List]

I accidentally put all the real musical classics at the end of the month. But I’m sure a lot people would consider Anastasia a classic Disney movie. You’d think it would be right up my alley, since I’ve been interested in Russian history and language for years, but I never bothered to see it.

I think my favorite part of watching it was trying to explain to my 7-year-old brother why Rasputin was so mad at the Romanovs. I know it’s not nearly a historically accurate movie, but still, some context is nice. He also made us listen to Rasputin’s song twice, so I think he was a fan. (And it wasn’t even by Boney M!)

Other than that, it was a cute movie! I really liked the aesthetics and the animation. They made Anastasia very cute and her clothes after she gets out of the orphanage were mesmerizing. I think I enjoyed them more than the more expensive dresses she ultimately finds herself in.

My only real complaint is that I could almost never tell if the accents were supposed to mostly be Russian or if some were from other countries. I assume they were aiming for Russian generally, but…… that could have gone better.

Next year maybe I’ll listen to the Broadway musical. But for now, this was fun!
