I’ve never actually read Oliver Twist. I think what I’m noticing with these musicals is that I’m very uncultured and that musicals can, potentially, be a gateway to many other things. Maybe someday I will write that history curriculum based entirely around musicals.
Anyway, I enjoyed Oliver! very much. It came out in 1968 and as far as I know is just a straight musical adaption of Oliver Twist. It was very cute, though. The songs were fun and the (likeable) characters were very endearing. If I hadn’t waited so long in the day to watch this, I would have shown it to my brother. Maybe another time.
The only question I’m left with is whether Nancy died. Because she obviously seemed to be moving at the end there, so….. What happened with that? (Maybe I should read the book and find out.)
