I don’t even know how I found out this movie existed. I definitely didn’t know it was made in 2013. I was picturing something older. Once I realized it was a Disney Channel movie, my expectations dropped pretty far.
That was wrong. This is a really fun movie and I enjoyed it a lot. It’s about two teens in the real world that get transported into a musical from 1962: Wet Side Story (West Side Story but on the beach). The guy is thrilled because it’s his favorite movie, and the girl hates it because she has a plane to catch. They end up throwing off the movie and have to fix it before they can get home.
There was a lot of good stuff. The fact that neither of them really got jealous and upset with the other when the movie’s love interests fell for each of them instead of each other. The pure joy of the guy realizing he’s in his favorite movie and then joining in with the musical numbers. The fact that everyone in the movie is just very stupid. The evil scientist looking into the camera after he’s told he’s in a movie.
It’s not high quality cinema, but it’s a fun movie and I enjoyed watching it.
