Finally… Musical Theater Month comes to an end, with an example of actual musical theater. I found a small theater version of this on youtube and watched that. I always like seeing the creative ways people find to do shows on smaller budgets than what Broadway has.
It was a fun show. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but then, I had no idea what it was about. I don’t even remember how I found out it existed. If you’re like me from three hours ago, Urinetown is a satirical show based in a dystopian world where everyone has to pay to use the toilet because of a water shortage caused by ecological crisis. In the end, it played with an idea I’ve thought about and discussed with others, about what happens when a revolution takes over and then makes things worse because the people leading it have no idea what they’re doing.
So, it was fun. The music was “happy” and it broke the fourth wall a lot. I enjoyed it, and I’ll probably listen to the Broadway cast recording sometime.
And… that’s the end. Tomorrow is March. I’m going to relax in the knowledge that I technically don’t have to watch any more musicals until 2019, and I’m going to watch Transformers instead. (Although… there is that musical episode of Rescue Bots……..)
(Also, I just realized I forgot to put Ghost Quartet on the list this year. Next time!)
