Musical Theater Month (Year 2!)

Last February I decided I needed to educate myself on musicals. I’d been into Hamilton for a little while, so I was starting to follow people that were more from the musical side of tumblr than the history side. I picked February because it’s the shortest month, and I made a list of what I was planning to watch or listen to. That list changed a little bit over the course of the month, but I did watch or listen to 29 musicals, and it was a lot of fun.

So, I’m doing it again! Here’s this month’s list.

  1. Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812
  2. A Chorus Line
  3. Pirates of Penzance
  4. Nixon in China
  5. Annie
  6. Hello, Dolly!
  7. Cabaret
  8. Little Shop of Horrors
  9. South Pacific
  10. The Rocky Horror Picture Show
  11. Jekyll & Hyde
  12. Sunday in the Park with George
  13. 3 Idiots
  14. Hedwig and the Angry Inch
  15. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
  16. Amadeus
  17. Kinky Boots
  18. The Wiz
  19. Next to Normal
  20. The Addams Family
  21. Porgy and Bess
  22. Oliver!
  23. Oklahoma!
  24. Tuck Everlasting
  25. Carrie
  26. Something Rotten
  27. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
  28. Sweeney Todd

Last year I picked most of my selections at random without knowing anything about the show, but that was part of the fun so I’ve done that again this year. I have a list of backups if some of these don’t work out, but if you have any suggestions I’d love to include them!

I’m being a little bit lax on the definition of “musical theater.” I have watched and will watch a lot of musical movies, and 3 Idiots is a Bollywood film my parents like but that I haven’t seen yet.

A musical a day is a pretty breakneck speed, so I’m really only just now rediscovering some of the soundtracks I enjoyed from last year. I just recently remembered how great Waitress is. I’m sure that will only continue. But I’m pretty excited to make some new discoveries!

Anyone wanna join me? 😉

  1. I love musicals in general. Have seen several on stage and participated in one each year in High School as part of the music dept. That was always great fun. Were those listed from last year or for this year?

Hope you have a great month. Enjoy!!
