Electricity is an Enigma

Whenever something happens in my life, I end up telling three or four people about it personally and then I feel like I don’t have anything left to say.

I’ve been in Sharjah for a few weeks now, and I’ve been home twice since I got here. There have been all kinds of house-related bugs to work out. Houses here just aren’t built well. My AC had to be rewired because it exploded. Apparently we can’t use the oven right now, or it’ll pop a breaker. I can’t use my AC at the same time as either the washing machine or the hot water heater for the same reason. I’m not impressed with house quality in Abu Dhabi, either, but I was never worried about that.

So far, work has been a mix of things. I’ll hang out with the kids for a little while, then do some cleaning upstairs to get two more classrooms into shape, and then I watch a couple of kids until their parents come. Then sometimes it’s more cleaning. I don’t mind that, because it’s given me a chance to work through my podcast backlog. I’ve also been doing social media, because I can’t escape that, apparently. It’s not any trouble, though. I’m hoping to plan some classes we can offer during the summer, and I need to get started on that soon. (If you have any ideas, let me know!)

Learning how to eat and grocery shop for myself has been interesting. Since I can’t use the oven, I end up making a lot of homemade ramen, eggs, and rice-related foods. I’m buying raw and frozen vegetables and then eating them in weird ways because I’m not entirely sure what to do with them (aside from adding them to my ramen, rice and eggs). Luckily, Carrefour is a five minute walk from my house, and there are some restaurants around that I can explore, so… I’m not going to starve anytime soon. Probably.

  1. My only question is are you enjoying yourself? There are blessings in dealing with life’s problems. Sometimes it keeps us busy enough that we don’t have time to be lonely all the time. You are very self sufficient which should also help. How many students do you have? We are hearing about your domestic problems and activities, what are you doing for fun?
