I haven’t seen this movie in years, and I didn’t watch it nearly as much as I watched Mulan as a kid, so my memories of it were pretty vague.
It’s weird, though, being older and watching a movie where a character declares themself “not a child anymore” because they’re 16, and then their parent lets them get married to someone they’ve known for 3 days. I’ve got a few questions for Triton about his parenting techniques. I have no doubt he loves his daughter, but almost every single thing he did in this movie was…questionable.
It was also Rhys’s first time watching. (I say that, but he actually left after Ursula’s Poor Unfortunate Souls song.) I couldn’t tell if he was enjoying himself while watching, except for when he made us watch Under the Sea a second time immediately after it finished. So that’s a good sign.
What are your thoughts on The Little Mermaid? Fun Nostalgia Trip? Overrated?

Up next: Mary Poppins!
